As much as I enjoyed the first year of teaching and administrating at Bios, the expectations for next year are even brighter.
Student wise we will expand from 40 students to over 130. We will have two primary (1 st -3 rd grade) and two elementary (4 th -6 th grade) classes plus a half-day kindergarten class in the morning. Junior high will have 25 or more students. High school will have the same.
Class offerings and sports will have additional choices. In high school, AP Chemistry and AP Biology will be added along with third year Spanish, calculus, pre-calculus, and physics. Guitar will be added to string orchestra for junior high and high school music choices.
Because the discovery of God's world through the sciences is much more exciting and enjoyable to learn through hands-on experience, we will begin our schedule of out of classroom science field trips.
These include:
Elementary: Two-day Science Camp
Seventh Grade: Kartchner Caverns
Eighth Grade: Sunflower Arizona Exploration
Ninth Grade: Long Beach Marine Biology Research Vessel
Tenth Grade: Two-day Science Camp
Eleventh Grade: Anatomy Only – Cadaver visit; Physics only – Amusement Park Physics
Twelfth Grade: Grand Canyon Rafting
Sports will see quite a few exciting changes. In the elementary grades we will be organizing a boy's basketball team during the winter season. The junior high and high school students will have an expanded list of sports while competing in the Arizona Independent Christian Schools (AICS) league. For the girls, fall – volleyball, cross country; winter – basketball; spring – soccer. For the boys, fall – soccer, cross country; winter – basketball.
With all of these changes, something will remain the same. We expect to make a positive difference in every student's life. Even though our students and teachers strive to attain exceptional educational goals and exhibit growing skills in athletics and the arts, it is all for naught if it is achieved outside the instruction of the Bible through the teaching and lives of mature Christian men and women who care enough to treat your child as the individual he or she is. Yes, some things will not change.
